Fraud risk continues, anti-fraud training and awareness should as well

AuditLink, the audit and compliance division of CU*Answers, announced in February that Marvin Johnson, AuditLink assistant manager, renewed his Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) is the world’s largest anti-fraud organization and provider of anti-fraud training and education.

Fraud risk tends to draw more attention when large cases are publicized by the media. The number of ways fraud is perpetrated continues to widen, but the fundamentals of fraud awareness, prevention, detection and deterrence still provide the most effective way to manage the risk.

“One of the reasons I pursued this certification is because it fends off complacency as it relates to the persistent risk of fraud,” said Johnson. “The continuing education and training required to maintain the designation reinforces the importance of good old-fashioned internal controls and it updates my understanding of transactional and behavioral red flags as the methods of bad actors change.”
