AuditLink, the audit and compliance division of the West Michigan-based CUSO CU*Answers, partnered with Affinity Group Credit Union to hold a compliance round table in Pontiac, Michigan on March 5, 2014. The event had 40 attendees, representing 22 credit unions.
The full day schedule included an array of informative speakers:
- Steve Van Beek formally of NAFCU and now attorney with Howard & Howard PLLC in Royal Oak, MI discussed common credit card issues and TILA-RESPA mortgage disclosures.
- Meg Prieur, of The Payments Authority went over many of the ACH industry updates for 2014.
- Jim Vilker of AuditLink ended the day with NCUA updates.
“AuditLink has held many successful compliance round tables at our Grand Rapids facility, but we wanted to offer something to our east side clients”, states Marsha Sapino, AuditLink Associate. AuditLink teamed up with Carma Peters, CEO of Affinity Group Credit Union to host the event at their Pontiac location. “Originally the event was intended for East Michigan CU*Answers clients, but we were pleased to have clients from all over the state and even Ohio in attendance”, says Sapino. “We even had non-CU*Answers clients attend.”
Attendee Hassan Abdallah, lead compliance specialist at Community Choice CU stated “All the presenters were extremely knowledgeable and the material will be a great resource for our Compliance & Risk Management department.” Jessica Hillborg, Compliance and Audit officer at Frankenmuth Credit union added “CU*Answers’ Compliance Seminar was excellent. Not only was a great overview of upcoming regulations presented, but the compliance experts from our data processor were in the room shedding light on how they could aid us in achieving compliance. If seminars similar to this are offered in the future, you can be sure that I will be in attendance!”
