CUSO presses recovery testing further by including end-of-month processing

CU*Answers has recently published a gap analysis report, detailing the activities around the spring High Availability (HA) rollover exercise, where live CU*BASE core processing was performed for a three-week period on systems at the secondary data center. All 190+ online CU*Answers credit unions participated in this recovery event, from April 18th through May 9th, as part of the ongoing Business Continuity program.

At the center of the CU*BASE core operations is the OpsEngine Production Team, working around the clock in the data center to ensure 24/7 processing by time zone, local to each client credit union. “Operations must be flexible and predictable, ready adapt to potentially disruptive incidents,” stated Jim Lawrence, VP of Business Continuity and Operations. “Redirecting core processing between data centers in a live production environment, whether planned or unplanned, requires tight integration between DR/BC and all essential business functions, beginning with daily operations.”

Performed every six months, HA rollovers are conducted to sharpen skills, validate procedures, and demonstrate capabilities. “No individual business activity is off the table,” says Jim Lawrence. Case in point – during the early hours of May 1st, end-of-month processing for all online credit unions was performed on systems at the secondary data center located 750 miles from the primary Operations offices. Details about this and more are available in the gap analysis report at on the CU*Answers website.
