CU*Answers training the trainer for incident response

As a CUSO serving over 265 credit unions nationwide, CU*Answers continually seeks ways to leverage the combined experience and expertise of each participant for the benefit of the network. This applies not only to operations and administration, but especially in the area of technology. “Intelligence sharing is instrumental in the fight to defend against cyber threats targeting credit unions large and small,” states Jim Lawrence, Vice President of Business Continuity. “Approaching this from the perspective of a cooperative, CUSOs and credit unions are sharing their experiences and learning from others to design cost-effective solutions to manage risk and respond to attacks.”

One example includes an event scheduled for May 3rd, where credit unions will gather in Naperville, IL as part of a training peer networking group workshop to learn about and participate in an incident response tabletop exercise, presented by CU*Answers. “Unlike most incident response workshops where the focus is on IT or compliance, this meeting is designed to train the trainer to improve their credit union’s awareness and training programs across all departments, and seek to embed cyber resilience throughout the organization,” added Lawrence. Participants will receive information on developing and integrating a tabletop exercise into their own programs, as well as participate in one based on an incident response scenario that they can take with them and simulate back at their credit union.
