Site-Four, a core processing data center headquartered in Yankton, South Dakota, completed a 72-hour trial running 100% on the backup generator. This test was designed to simulate full normal utility power loss from the primary energy provider. The test was conducted from 8:00AM on December 15th to 8:00AM on December 18th. During that timeframe Site-Four experienced extended periods of below freezing weather and less than optimal conditions. During the testing incremental measure of power and fuel consumption were monitored and recorded. The test results were very positive in that after 72 hours of continuous runtime under load, the CUSO still had 23% of its fuel remaining. The 150KW, 336 gallon, diesel fueled, 3-phase generator carried the full load of the power consumption demands with no issues.
Alan Rogers, Site-Four CEO said, “Site-Four has been doing this test for a number of years. We find it valuable to us to know exactly what our capabilities are in case of an emergency.”
