CU*Answers Installs New IBM i

CU*Answers announced today that this weekend they will be installing a new
IBM i unit for their Grand Rapids service bureau. A similar unit will be installed at the high availability site in Muskegon during July.

“These new systems have elastic capabilities that allow us to increase capacity on-demand as we expand our online community, and to cover peak processing times,” says Jody Karnes, CU*Answers CIO.

The new systems are IBM i POWER 7 model 770s with 7 processors (and another 5 on stand-by), 512gb of memory (and another 512gb on stand-by), and 13 terabytes of disk storage.

Because this upgrade involves physically moving and renaming hardware, the company’s online, mobile, and phone banking products will be off line for several hours overnight on Sunday, June 23rd, while the team installs the new equipment and runs a battery of tests.

“This represents a substantial investment by the CUSO to meet the current and future needs of its clients and owners,” says Karnes.  “We look forward to the possibilities this new generation of servers is going to bring.”
