I’ve been going to ACUMA meetings for the last few years and heard a continuous chorus of dissatisfaction with the current community of sub-servicing options available to credit unions and mortgage focused CUSOs. Customization, price, system integrations, technology obsolescence are all reasons that we think that the time is right for a CU/CUSO owned subservicing solution that will compete with the current providers. Given the growing mortgage market share that CUs are currently experiencing and the growing role that CUs are playing in the purchase money market, we think that it is vital for us to have an industry owned solution that provides best of breed mortgage solutions for the total life of the member mortgage relationship, not just from application to closing. Digitization strategies and centralized control of mortgage data can open many opportunities for a collaborative effort to continually decrease the friction in the mortgage process and lower the cost of home ownership for all members.
